My Diagnosis: A Most Troublesome Yeast Infection

Filed under: Uncategorized — keelyem @ 10:37 pm

Yeast, as every Bible student knows, is almost always referred to in the Old and New Testaments as an agent of spoilage, an ingredient that Leviticus 2:11 tells us renders grain unacceptable for sacrifice and a symbol in Matthew 16:6 of the Pharisees’ erroneous and ugly teachings.

And so, after analyzing the recent eruptions of contaminated, spoiled, corrupted and filthy rhetoric from Christ Church’s pastor and one of its elders, I believe I’m on solid ground in diagnosing a widespread, virulent yeast infection raging throughout the Kirk and its affiliates. The symptoms are there, but, praise be to God, the cure is easily found.

Nonetheless, it remains to be seen whether or not Kirk leadership, led by Wilson, avails itself of treatment. God is patient; the cure is efficacious. But this appears to be a congregation that easily accommodates spoilage, and only they know how much more infected they’ll choose to become. For now, the unabashed and unabated contamination Wilson unleashes with his words appears to spread without objection, leading me to conclude that the yeast infection working through Christ Church has completely erased from its congregants and others any memory of things good, true, and lovely.

  1. Your last line at least is not true. At least from what I see of them online (Credenda/Agenda, their website etc), Mr. Wilson’s church smells of Heaven.

Mr. Wilson’s statements are insightful and his congregation has an excellent sense of what is beautiful.

  2. I, of course, entirely disagree. But that’s OK. And if Wilson’s words are “insightful,” I cannot imagine how bad one of his verbal gaffes might be. I’m horrified enough now.

  3. I do not see why you should ENTIRELY disagree. Does not Mr. Wilson’s church maintain a beautiful website? I share Mr. Wilson’s taste for early 20th century English authors (Wodehouse, Chesterton etc).

Now it is possible that Mr. Wilson shares with the early 20th century Englishmen their insularity. Suppose he would even go so far as to put outside the door of his grand buildings and wonderful grounds this sign: “Indians and dogs not allowed” – and the British colonials did in India. Now I as an Indian would be offened BY THE SIGN. Not by the beautiful buildings and the wonderful grounds. I would rebuke the racists their RACISM but I would bless them for their taste in architecture and landscaping.

So if Mr. Wilson is indeed as you imply – and that itself is not settled – he has NEVERTHELESS built something beautiful and that needs to be taken into account.

  4. OK. You would rebuke the colonialists for their racism, but bless them for the beauty of their architecture and landscaping? Wow. As the wife of a landscaper, and an appreciator of architectural beauty, I would only marvel that thoroughly corrupted hearts could still produce anything of aesthetic value. But it wouldn’t be enough to minimize the offense. That Wilson produces an attractive website is irrelevant, and, frankly, your comments ought to embarrass you.
